James 4:7-10

Submit yourselves therefore to God.

 

The overriding exhortation, part 1

 

 

 

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

The two relationships, distancing ourselves from the devil and coming close to God, and each response

 

 

 

Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Dealing with sin and sinner, both the outward and inward

 

 

 

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

The right state of mind or attitude, in light of the fights and quarrels amongst them, see 4:1-6

 

 

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
